Last night i had the weirdest dream.
I dreamed that i was out at a bar, waiting for Mr No Name to arrive, but then i recieved a msg saying that he wasn’t actually coming. When i put the phone down on the table, i looked up, and there, standing at the bar, looking straight at me, was ‘the frenchman’.
It was crazy. My body was tingling, my heart pumping even faster than the time i had arythmia, and i was shaking all over. I could hardly breathe. The dream was so vivid.
I can’t remember all the minor details, it’s a bit of a blur, but then suddenly we were outside on the pavement, saying goodbye. Goodbye turned into a kiss, and a kiss turned into a dinner invitation, and my bewildered expression turned into him telling me that he wants to be with me. Really, properly, to start a true relationship.
He said that he had to let me go back to Australia like that, that he couldn’t have been with me, not knowing if i would really return, but now that i am back for my own reasons, he knows it’s the right thing to do.
It was like all of my wildest dreams came true.
Except it wasn’t actually a dream.
It was completely true.

Side note: So a quick question for those of us actually moving to Paris who are starting to freak out. I know it will be hard when I first move there, but is it fun once you settle in? Someone told me on the weekend that if you can’t speak fluent French it is hard to make friends. Say it ain’t so!

villy: to answer ur question about making french friends, i lived in france for 4 and a half years, and im moving back in july, and even tho im fluent in french, it’s SUPER hard to make french friends. french ppl are weird like that. they apparently make all their friends when they’re younger, and dont find a need to make new friends. they’re not as open or friendly as us english-speakers. that all being said, france is AWESOME!!! u will absolutely love it! u should check out the book “french or foe” by polly platt. or “culture shock! france”. they tell u a lot about france, french culture, and the infamous french friends question.

It’s real. I am still in shock, it was just complete coincidence that we were both there, i had changed the venue at the last minute too.
I have seen him the last couple of days, but i haven’t made any decisions yet, i just don’t know what to do! On one had my dreams have come true and on the other i am setting myself up for the same thing all over again.
Villy, i speak no french, yet i have made some french friends. Parisians, not so many, but certainly french people, you just have to get out there, you meet one person, they introduce you to others…it works. The best thing is, with less people to see, the less you feel obligated to be doing something, the more of the beautiful city you can enjoy.
Oooh, I forgot to say thannks to Liz. Liz, when you first move back to Paris, where will you stay? I am doing the big search for some temporary accomodation for when I arrive at the end of August. Hopefully, I will not have to stay at a hostel. I am such a priss.
I had written another reply, but I don’t know what happened to it. I think I just said something like…Thanks Poulette, great advice, great attitude.

villy – im actually not going to be moving to paris, but to Nice in the south of france. i will be briefly working for a summer camp in paris for 3 weeks in july tho…anyways, as for cheap accomodation in paris, i totally recommend this website: venere.com. u can get cheap hotels if u book in advance!! since ur going to be arriving in the summer (even tho its the end of summer..), id say try to start looking for hotel accomodation as soon as possible! sometimes u can get hotels for 25 euros or so per night on that website, but they only have a small amount of rooms at that price, then once they’re booked, the prices go up. still, its cheaper reserving on venere.com vs. paying the hotel price when u get there!
oh and one more thing. i dunno if u’ve been to france before villy, but hotels in paris tend to be gross. unless ur willing to spend big money on four star hotels, hotels tend to be kinda stinky, musty, and old. lol just a heads-up.
if u go for a hostel, there’s one near the Louvre which isnt too bad. maybe u could also look into renting a studio for a week or 2. it may be expensive, but might end up being cheaper and more convenient than paying for a hotel for a week or so. maybe check fusac.org, craigslist, or paruvendu.fr, topannonces.fr, vivastreet.fr, etc.

Villy, craiglist.com is literally where i have found all my studios and flatshares. I’m looking now too and there are LOADS of studios/rooms to sublet for the summer. Everyone goes away and wants someone to cover their rent. I have no doubt you’ll find something. When i was in OZ just now i actually went as far as to put an ad on the rooms wanted page, and along with 50 Nigerian doctors telling me i’d won the lottery, i ended up with my accom here now, with a really nice woman. We just skyped and she took my word that i’d turn up.
Et Voila. Do it.

that is the best thing i have heard all day. im heading to lyon in August for a year and love reading about poulette’s life in paris. hearing stories like this make all the stress of organising visa’s, accom, bank accounts etc seem worthwhile. thank you x
